ADA COMPLIANCE AND TACTILE WARNING SURFACES
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires warning surfaces to be installed at all public rights-of-way to improve accessibility. Its guidelines have standardized the use of detectable warning surfaces. Also commonly referred to as tactile warning surfaces, they are built into or applied on top of existing sidewalks, walkways, and other surfaces on which visually impaired pedestrians may travel.
Sensory signals are provided via truncated domes, so pedestrians are aware of the safest path of travel at the edge of a sidewalk, near a vehicular path, or where the surface elevation changes. The ADA provides standards on the dimensions and placement of the tactile warning surfaces and the spacing, height, shape, and alignment of truncated domes. At ADA Solutions, all our tactile warning products meet these specifications.
